Beginning November 3rd, drop off a new, unused twin size blanket. It will be given to our local shelter providers for those in need of a little extra warmth.
Rising Rate of Homelessness
Homelessness is not always visible. Your neighbors, coworkers, fellow church goers, friends and family members could be at risk of homelessness or have experienced it at some point in their lives.
On a single night in 2024, about 23 of every 10,000 individuals in the United States experienced homelessness.
771,480 people
in need of shelter and support
This marks an 18 percent increase from the previous year. (HUD, AHAR 2024). This is the highest since data collection began. The trend is accelerating and not plateauing.
Homelessness is Closer
Than You Think
Sudden changes or events can push people over the edge. Job loss, medical bills, divorce or breakup, eviction, or unexpected car or home repair costs can turn a modest income household into an at-risk of homelessness household overnight.
The number of people who entered homelessness for the first time is growing 23% since 2019. (Source: NAEH). Many are not chronically homeless; they are being pushed in by economic shocks
At Risk Populations
Many people who are at risk of homelessness or already in unstable housing are not captured in PIT counts because they are staying temporarily with friends or family (“doubling up”).

Terms to Know
Understanding the complexities of homelessness requires a clear grasp of the terminology used in discussions about this critical issue. Our glossary provides definitions and explanations of key terms related to homelessness, offering an essential resource for anyone seeking to deepen their knowledge.
Crisis Housing
An emergency shelter in the homeless coordinated entry system. Crisis Housing means any facility, the primary purpose of which is to provide temporary shelter for the homeless or to provide a bridge to permanent housing.
Housing Affordability
Housing becomes unaffordable when a large share of income goes to rent. People who are “rent burdened” face high risk of losing housing if they experience a financial setback.
HUD’s Definition of Homelessness
The definition includes four broad categories of homelessness. Please visit HUDUSER.GOV for full definition.
